Fundraising

Lions raise funds in many different ways to offer local people and causes support. Here are a few ways in which Wisbech Lions Club raises money.

Parsons Drove Classic Car and Motorcycle Show

We often control the car parking at this event and set up our fundraising stall. Members set up games and Tombola giving visitors a chance to enjoy themselves and take home prizes.

Wisbech Rockfest

We put up our gazebo at this popular event and offer a selection of games and chances to win prizes and raise funds.

Bygones Meal Raffle

For many years we have been invited to hold one or two, monthly meal raffles with meal prizes offered by this popular Wisbech café. This involves customers placing a £1 coin in an envelope with a prize draw for the winning envelopes.

Jolly Fryer Meal Raffle

This popular fish and chip location is the site of another meal raffle with prizes offered by the owners. Again this involves £1 in an envelope and selection usually in about three weeks.

Halloween stall

We are often invited to set up our gazebo in The Horsefair as part of the Spooktacular events in the town. We decorate the tables with spooky things and set up our games. Certain Lions have been known to be more spooky than normal on this occasion!

Conkers competition

We hold a competition for Lions members and invited guests where they display their skill ( or lack of) at playing Conkers. We provide a buffet fit for Wisbech Conkerors! A good night where the entry fee and cost of meals helps raise funds for a specific purpose decided at the time. We hold a raffle using many items donated by members and all profit from this event goes to a cause selected by members.

Wisbech Christmas Light Switch On

We have the Santa Sleigh PAT tested and made roadworthy before taking it out into town. Lions Santa has set up in the Market Square at Light Switch On in previous years. Young and older people have visited to say hello and we have raised funds using the buckets provided. Each child with a parent / guardian received a bag of sweets.

Santa Sleigh Runs

We usually do 6 or 7 sleigh runs setting off at 530pm and finishing at 730pm. We have a permit from Fenland District Council, applied for in plenty of time, to enable us to conduct House to House collections. Every year we are amazed at the generosity of the people of Wisbech. We often have children giving all their savings to us.

Christmas Sleigh Statics – Supermarkets

Every year we set up the sleigh with Santa from about 9am – 4pm at Morrisons, Tesco and Asda. Whatever the weather we are usually in position for the youngsters (and the not so young) to visit us and often to leave us a donation in the collection boxes or buckets.

Wisbech Lions Christmas Cards

Our own Lion Judy Hodgson, an award winning photographer has taken the photo for our Christmas cards. The card will be available to buy at Etcetera Community Hub and other outlets yet to be agreed.

Facebook fundraisers

We can be found on Pay Pal Giving Fund. Donations using this means we get 100% of any donation and if you pay standard tax can be eligible for Gift Aid. We also have members on our Friends of Wisbech Lions group who fundraise for us.

Valentine’s Day

We are often to be found in The Horsefair on Valentine’s Day with the Centre Manager. Funds from a fundraiser are then given to the Club as a donation.

Easter Eggs

Traditionally for many years we have purchased a number of large Easter Eggs and these are delivered to about 25 pubs / restaurants where 100 raffle tickets are sold for the prize draw before Easter.

Car Boot sales

We have, in the past had some members who collected items for car boot sales, many donated. We may do this again soon.

Our Health and Safety Officer, Lion Robert Pearson undertakes Risk Assessments ahead of all events. We are insured by Lions Clubs International and all members are DBS checked.
